I’ve been working on a new side project. This one is a Tarot deck, using spiders to represent the Tarot characters. The illustrations are pen and ink. They can be found in the Assorted Illustration gallery.

Celebr-Ants

In past years, I would do illustrations of Hemiptera, for the HumBugs of the Holidays. This year I am doing the Holiday Celebr-Ants of the Hymenoptera. They go in the Scientific Illustration page as normal.

I’ll be adding the usual round of spiders, scorpions and assorted gribblies for this October, then leading into the Humbugs for December. Check the Scientific Illustration page.

Spider Mimicry

The next batch of Entomological Illustrations are a very narrow type- Spider Mimics. The drawings will be spiders that mimic other arthropod types. I’ll also be uploading the models for the spiders (the species that the spiders are mimicking). Check the Scientific Illustrations page.

My next round of illustrations is a departure from the Arachnids and Insects, instead heading into the Decapods, the crabs and related Crustaceans. They’ll be in the Scientific Illustration page with the rest of the buggies.

Wasps!

Wasps! Their name evokes fear and revulsion. But the wasps are critical members of the food chain and perfect checks on insect species. Nearly every species of wasp is specialized to feed or parasitize another species of insect (sometimes even other wasps!) The entomological illustrations for this next round will cover the Wasps, in Order Hymenoptera, suborder Aprocita. This Order also includes bees and ants. A narrower definition of wasp is members of the Vespidae family, but I want to cast a wider net.

Arachtober and Humbugs 2021

I’ve added new Entomological Illustrations for the Arachtober and Humbugs galleries in Scientific Illustration. Arachtober, as usual, covers Arachnids and related species of Chelicerata, such as spiders, mites, ticks, etc. while Humbugs are the Hemiptera order of Insects- true bugs, like cicadas, stink bugs, aphids, and so on.

Mimics 2021

I’m working on more Entomological Illustrations, this time themed around mimic species of bugs, spiders, etc. These will be species which use Batesian or Mullerian Mimicry to resemble other species.
